It will enable you better able to manage daily activities, reduce the risk of falls and significantly reduce your aches and pains. It takes regular commitment and for us, me as a trainer and you, to meet your body where it is now, and exercise safely and regularly.
Please don’t think you are beyond help, too weak, or too injured. You can get stronger, feel better and see changes. Why not come and find out? (Or for now, start with a chat). We can change you from a true beginner to a true believer.
I teach 1:1 sessions for people with Osteoporosis in my home studio. In addition, I run a weekly Exercise for Osteoporosis class in Leeds. Please follow this link for details of the group class.
So, why come to me for strength training and exercise for Osteoporosis in Leeds?
Spine safe 1 to 1 strength training for Osteoporosis in Leeds.
There are 3 important reasons why 1 to 1 sessions to address your Osteoporosis or Osteopenia might be your best option (although there are other reasons too).
Firstly, I’ll help you get stronger; secondly, I’ll help you regain, or gain more confidence. Finally, the exercises will be safe for your spine and improve your spine strength.

Let’s make you stronger.
So that you can do more stuff, more easily. It might be hiking over stiles, gardening, standing for ages at a gig, or playing with your grandchildren. Targeted exercises will mean you are less likely to fall and less likely to break a bone.
Practising different shapes and movements in a session proves to you that you can do them properly and safely. Modelling things in the session with me watching will give you the confidence to have a go on your own.
Confidence building as well as strength building.
An Osteoporosis diagnosis can knock your confidence, especially if you were diagnosed following a bone fracture.
You have to get used to a new normal, and the worry is just there in the back of your mind that you might break a bone.

I have Osteoporosis and know how it feels. Sometimes I think about the risks when I get on my bike, but I try to ignore my anxieties. Every week I take my meds and work hard at my strength training. Strength training has made me significantly stronger, and I feel better knowing that I’m doing something essential as well as positive. I have written a number of blog posts about how I’ve dealt with my Osteoporosis diagnosis and you can read one here about my first year following my initial Dexa scan.
If you have never really done much exercise before, it all feels a bit scary, especially if you have got Osteoporosis. Were you, like me, born into a world where you either did sport or stayed at home with a book? I was a bookish child and joined a gym aged 31. After that I never looked back. If you have yet to reach that point in the crossroads where you take the “regular exercise” path, then come and take it now!
The sessions must be effective, and you need to feel the benefits. Also, they need to have, as standard, two kinds of safety. The session must be safe. Correctly chosen, correctly performed exercises. In addition, though, you need to feel safe, and we’ll proceed with that in mind.
Spine safe movements, in your 1 to 1 strength training for Osteoporosis.
This is a brilliant reason for choosing to do 1 to 1 for strength training. No exercise will overly compress the spine, and in all of them I’ll observe your alignment and form so that your spine is an the best alignment possible. You definitely need to keep the spine mobile. The stiffer and more compressed it is, the greater the risk of fractures. So we’ll work on careful spine mobility exercises.
Work Smarter
If you are used to regular exercise and are now interested in bone strength and bone health as part of your regular regime, then you might need a change of emphasis. Loading the spine is possible but it is very different to a cardio-oriented regime or Pilates, or Yoga. I have written a blog post about how to do strength training for greater strength in the spine, and you can read it here.
We won’t just work on strength. You need really good alignment, especially for the spine. In addition you need good joint mobility, again, especially for the spine.
Stuff to do at home
Ideally, you need to do strength work more than once a week. If you come as a 1 to 1 client, I can give you as many or few homework exercises as you want! Alternatively, you could attend my weekly class as well. There is info about the weekly group class in Leeds here.
Why me?
Why chose me to help you with your strength training and exercise for Osteoporosis?
I bring a few things to the table, so to speak. I have been in the fitness industry 22 years now and crucially, I am Gym Instructor. This means I can teach the big, important strength exercises like an overhead press, or a deadlift, which is the exercise I’m doing in the top of this page. That is not enough though. I have spent years teaching older adults and can modify pretty much anything to cater for people who need a gentler approach.
I have a specialist exercise for Osteoporosis qualification that I gained from an internationally recognised company called Buff Bones. You can check them out here.

I have Osteoporosis myself. That doesn’t necessarily give me insight into how you feel about your diagnosis. Everyone is different, with different history and current situation regarding fractures. Having said that, I will definitely have something in common with you. What my diagnosis really does, is make me care passionately about how we all approach this disease (if that is the right word to use). I want to get as many people as possible stronger and better able to face the future with confidence Fractures are not inevitable or spontaneous and we can make real positive changes to our bodies and our bones to stay fracture free.
You can have a chat with me before booking anything

Organising that, rather like actual talking on an actual phone, is still done the old-fashioned way.
Click here to email your request (and I’ll put it in my paper diary!) I’m free on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoons. You can always phone me, text or WhatsApp me right now on 0775 166 2158.
